D you want to work from home and need some advice? Here are 10 important tips to help you along the way as you get your dream of financial independence off the ground this year!
1. DO NOT miss any potential orders or jobs. Have a cell phone with you at all times. Be ready to get that important call or order whether you are at the store or on the job site.
2. DO have a pen and a small notepad handy to jot down important details. If you take orders over the phone have some small pre-designed order forms so you can get all the important facts like their full name, credit card numbers, expiration date, 3-digit number on back of card, type of card, their mailing address, etc.
3. DO eat a good breakfast to start your day. My breakfast meal is a tad bigger than my dinner meal. I usually only eat twice a day and a good hardy breakfast is important for your business.
4. DO NOT get soft working from home. Keep alert and alive by having a regular “every day” or “every other day” exercise program. It will keep your body tuned up and your mind sharp and more alert.
5. DO NOT eat or drink a lot of sugar. I drink bottled water during the day and at night if I need refreshment. I even chew gum. This helps keep your energy levels normal. If you eat at home you can put on a lot of weight on by doing a lot of unnecessary snacking.
6. DO your work in “time blocks”. If you are on a task, stay with it until it is finished if possible. Work in 2-hour blocks. If you are low on energy take a 15-minute break and go sit down. Your body will re-cycle back into a higher energy swing.
7. DO NOT try to do more than one task at a time. It severely lowers your concentration and it is reported that multi-tasking lowers your intelligence to that of a pot smoker.
8. DO NOT answer the phone in a dull voice when dealing with customers. Try to be a little upbeat. You don’t have to be geeky. Just try not to sound like a couch potato either. Instead be upbeat in a business-like manner.
9. DO answer or make follow up calls and e-mails within 24 hours. When calling back a prospect or customer, don’t call before 8:30 a.m. and no later than 9:00 p.m. unless you know them well and their schedule.
10. Some say “DO NOT run your business in your underwear. People will know.” Personally, some days I don’t get into the shower until 3:00 in the afternoon. I do it all the time and it doesn’t make any difference phone-wise. Just don’t go out in public looking like you just rolled out of the hay. That WILL make a difference!
